Nissan equips the Murano vehicle with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). This system monitors tire pressure and warns you when a tire is getting low. Damage to the tire causes a low pressure condition. When faced with this condition, you may have to change your tire in order to drive the Murano any further. Wear caused by heat and friction also necessitates a tire change, which you can accomplish with basic mechanical skills.

- Clean rag
- Wheel blocks
- Torque wrench
- Wheel-nut socket
- Rubber mallet
Removing the Tire

Park the Murano on level pavement. Turn the engine off and set the parking brake.

Block the wheel on the Murano that is diagonally opposite the wheel being removed.

Open the car’s rear hatch. Fold back the floor cover on the right side of the rear stowage area. Remove the jack, wheel-nut wrench and jack rod from the compartment.

Insert the flat edge of the jack rod into the gap between the edge of the wheel cap and the rim of the tire to be changed. Place the rag behind the jack rod so it lays between the jack rod and the rim. Pry the wheel cap off with the jack rod. Set the wheel cap and the rag aside.

Locate the jack-up point nearest the wheel being changed. The jack-up point is designated by two notches on the frame rail just behind the front wheels or just in front of the rear wheels.

Turn the jack’s crank screw by hand clockwise to raise the jack a few inches. Slide the jack under the frame rail and continue raising the jack. Align the jack’s head so it contacts the frame rail between the notches of the jack-up point. Seat the slot of the jack’s head into the groove in the frame rail. Raise the jack until you can no longer turn the crank screw by hand.

Loosen the wheel nuts with the wheel-nut wrench. Turn the nuts counterclockwise one or two turns each.

Insert the hooked end of the jack rod into the loop of the crank screw. Insert the flat end of the jack rod into the slot in the end of the wheel-nut wrench. Turn the wheel-nut wrench clockwise like a crank to continue raising the jack. Raise the jack until the wheel just clears the ground.

Remove the wheel nuts by hand. Slip the wheel-nut wrench off the jack rod and use it to remove the nuts, if needed. Set the wheel nuts aside.

Grasp the tire at the 3 o’clock and the 9 o’clock positions. Slide the tire toward you to remove it from the hub. Set the tire aside.
Installing the Tire

Roll the new tire into position in front of the hub. Lift the tire and align the holes in the rim with the wheel studs. Slide the rim onto the hub.

Put the wheel nuts on and tighten them by hand.

Turn the wheel-nut wrench counterclockwise like a crank to lower the jack. Lower the jack until the wheel touches and settles on the ground.

Slip the wheel-nut wrench off the jack rod and use it to tighten the wheel nuts in a cross pattern. Slip the wheel-nut wrench back onto the jack rod and finish lowering the Murano. Slide the jack out from under the frame rail.

Tighten the wheel nuts in a cross pattern. Torque the nuts to 80 foot-lbs. with the torque wrench and socket.

Reinstall the wheel cap with the rubber mallet.

Disassemble the jack and jack rod, then stow the jack, jack rod and wheel-nut wrench into the compartment inside the rear hatch. Close the hatch. Remove the wheel blocks.
Tips & Warnings
- Depending on the options equipped on your Murano, you may not have a wheel cap. Skip Step 4 if the wheel lugs are visible.
- Recheck torque on the wheel nuts again after driving 600 miles. Check the torque on the wheel nuts at each lubrication interval.
- Do not use oil or grease on the wheel nuts or studs.
- The Murano’s jack is intended to lift the vehicle to change a tire only. Do not put yourself under the vehicle or allow anyone to get under the vehicle when it is supported only by the jack.
- The jack included with your Murano was designed for use with your vehicle. Do not use the jack to lift other vehicles.
- Never lift the Murano by any other part of the vehicle than the jack-up points.
- Do not jack the vehicle up higher than necessary to lift the wheel off the ground.
- Do not use blocks under the jack or on the jack head.
- Do not start the engine while the vehicle is supported by the jack.
- Do not allow passengers to get inside or remain inside the vehicle while the Murano is on the jack.
