In order to maximize fuel efficiency and engine longevity, automakers spend countless hours testing various oil weights and types to determine what is the best oil for an engine. With manufacturers all recommending different oils, it can be a little bit overwhelming when you walk into the motor oil aisle in your local parts store. Fortunately, your 2001 Honda Accord uses a rather common weight of oil, and Honda has no preference between standard and synthetic oils.

Oil Recommendations

  • Honda recommends using only API-certified, 5W-20 engine oil in the Accord’s 2.4-liter engine. In a pinch, however, you can use 5W-30, but Honda recommends switching back to 5W-20 at the next oil change. With the oil filter capacity taken into account, the 2.4-liter engine holds a total of 4.5 quarts of oil.
